About

Biography

I studied electronic engineering in Jamshoro, then took a master's in Islamabad and worked on signal and image processing. That work kept pointing at a problem I did not have the tools for.

The problem became my PhD at City University of Hong Kong, where I spent three and a half years on why lung cancers stop responding to the drugs that should kill them. I simulated the EGFR mutations L858R and T790M, and built models that predict how a particular tumour responds to a particular treatment.

Since then I have worked on clinical imaging at MD Anderson, led a research group in regenerative medicine at the Chinese Academy of Sciences, and spent a year in a computer-vision laboratory at the University of Central Florida. I taught in Karachi alongside that research, and I still teach when I can.

I now work on foundation models for biomedical imaging, whole-embryo modelling and women's health at Massachusetts General Hospital. It is the same problem the PhD started with, with better tools.
